Pender Juniors Advance to State Legion Championship Game with Win Over DCB

BATTLE CREEK – The Pender Junior American Legion Baseball Team kept their season going on Tuesday, downing Dannebrog-Cairo-Boelus 4-1 at the Class C State Tournament in Battle Creek.

DCB scored their only run in the bottom of the first, taking a 1-0 lead into the third inning.

Pender scored three runs in the top of the third and added one more in the top of the seventh to secure the 4-1 victory.

Will Gatzmeyer had a pair of singles and three RBIs, with Devin Hegge and Jaxon Maise each adding RBI base hits.

Hegge was the winning pitcher, going the complete game, allowing just one run on five hits and two walks, striking out six.

Pender moves on to the final day of competition where they will take on Stromsburg-Osceola-Shelby, who beat Pender 10-9 on Saturday.

The two teams will play again at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull. Pender has to beat SOS twice to win the State Championship.
