Scottsbluff, Gering teams go 3-1 on Saturday
Had four HS basketball games at KNEB on Saturday.

KNEB had a big day of high school basketball coverage on Saturday with Scottsbluff and Gering playing girls and boys doubleheaders.

The action started on at Scottsbluff High School with the Bearcats playing their home openers against Casper Natrona County.

The Lady Bearcats jumped out to a 24-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back as they rolled to a 60-45 win.

Yara Garcia led Scottsbluff with 18 points and junior backcourt mate Aubry Krentz tallied 16 in the win.

With the win Scottsbluff improved to 4-4.

In the Boys game Scottsbluff absolutely dominated putting up triple digits, winning 100-69.

The Cats got double figure scoring from six different players led by Jasiya DeOllo’s 23 points.

Others in double figures were Sabastian Harsh, Harold Baez, Dawson Mohr, Conner McCracken, and Quentin Scott.

McCracken had three big dunks in the win.

For Gering it was a doubleheader split up at Chadron.

The Lady Bulldogs, playing shorthanded as they dealt with some one game suspensions, ran out of gas in the fourth quarter and dropped to 3-3 with a 47-37 loss.

Paige Lopez scored over half the teams points finishing with 19. Jenna Balthazor scored 7.

Gering led by 29-27 after three quarters but playing with only 8 players on the varsity team they succumbed in the fourth getting outscored 20-8.

The Gering boys got a much needed win (their first official win of the season as their season opening W against DSST-Conservatory won’t count in the NSAA standings), knocking off the Cardinals 56-45.

Xavier Horst led the Bulldogs with 20 points. The senior point guard got 16 of those in the first half and keyed a big second quarter for Gering with 11 including three made three pointers.

Gering outscored Chadron 21-6 in the second stanza.

The key defensively was a switch to a 2-3 zone. Chadron never found the answer for the zone defense.

Also in double figures for the Bulldogs was Riley Schilz with 11 points. Henry Alvarez scored 9 points.
