All four local teams were in action last night on the pitch, with the big game being up at the Landers Complex on the boys side.
(Boys) Scottsbluff 8, Gering 0…Scottsbluff got two goals each from Thomas Madden and Jasiya DeOllos and single goal performances from Spencer Schaff, Jose Padilla, Dawson Mohr, and Eli De Los Santos. With the win Scottsbluff improved to 6-5 and they’ve still got games this week against Northwest and North Platte. Last night was the regular season finale for Gering, who fell to 2-9. There’s a good chance that last night was also the last Scottsbluff/Gering game for longtime Gering coach, Justin Clark, who’s retiring at the end of the season.
Gering will open the B-8 Subdistrict Tournament on Monday against Holdrege. Scottsbluff will play Tuesday against Kearney Catholic. Lexington is the top seed.
(Girls) Scottsbluff 4, Newcastle, WY 0…The Lady Bearcats went on the road and improved to 4-5 for their campaign, getting two goals from Madi Barraza and then single tallies from Kieyerah Twombly and Cali Wright. The Lady Bearcats also have road matches tomorrow and Friday against Northwest and North Platte before postseason action starts next week.
(Girls) Cheyenne Central 3, Gering 0…This would qualify as a good loss against good competition going into postseason play as Central now has a record of 9-1. Gering fell to 7-4.
The Lady Bulldogs have earned the top seed and will host the B-8 Subdistrict Tournament starting next Monday. #4 Scottsbluff will open up against #5 Lexington in the play-in game on Monday with the winner advancing to take on Gering. The other semifinal on Tuesday pits Kearney Catholic vs. Holdrege.
