Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women’s golf team shot a 327 on the first day of the NCAA Super Regional #3 Monday in St. Charles, Mo. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the par 72 Missouri Bluffs Golf Course (6,084 yards). The top three teams and the top three individuals not from one of the advancing teams moves onto the NCAA Championships later this month. The Loper lineup, the 12th seed in the tourney, managed 47 pars and four birdies today.
UNK is currently in 12th place but just 15 strokes out of seventh. A tight race is led at the moment by No. 24 Arkansas Tech (301), No. 25 Augustana (302) and No. 34 Southwestern Oklahoma State (304) and Lindenwood (305). Doniphan sophomore Brandi Lemek is tied for 38th place with an 8-over 80 (41-39). She birdied the par 4 11th hole (332 yards) and pared the first six holes on the front nine. Elin Wahlin of SWOSU and Josefina Haupt of tourney host Lindenwood are tied for the lead, both shooting a 2-over 70. Four others were at or below par. Also for UNK, Ogallala junior Maaika Mestl is tied for 44th (81; 41-40), McCook senior Breanna Redl (41-41) is a shot back in 55th place, California junior Danielle Dickerson is tied for 61st (84; 42-42) and Utah senior Samantha Crawford is 64th (85; 41-44). Mestl had two birdies on the front nine with Crawford carding a birdie on the par 4 13th hole (341 yards). Finally, Redl and Dickerson both had six pars on the back nine. The second round begins Tuesday morning.
