Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney cross country teams finished second (men) and fourth (women) at the 2018 MIAA Championships Saturday morning in Emporia, Kan. The Loper men, ranked sixth in the Central Region, tallied 101 points to trail only No. 16 Missouri Southern State (31). UNK edged rival Fort Hays State (111) and Southwest Baptist (125) to have its third top three finish at this meet since 2014. After finishing fifth each of the last three seasons, the UNK women scored 142 points today to trail only three nationally-ranked teams in No. 19 Pittsburg State (26), No. 18 SBU (51) and No. 22 MSSU (114).

This marks the Lopers best finish since a runner up effort in 2013. Individually, DeWeese junior Corbin Hansen represents the Loper men on the All-MIAA team (places 1-10) thanks to a fourth place effort. He ran the 8k course in 25:32.1 with MSSU freshman Gidieon Kimutai placing the field of 95 in 25:17.7. Imperial sophomore Destiny Reinke earned honorable mention All-MIAA accolades (places 11-20) by running the 6k course in 22:45.6. That was good for a 12th place finish with Pitt having the top three times. Senior Jordan Puvogel led the field of 111 in 21:51.3. Just missing out on h.m. All-MIAA honors were Merna junior Elizabeth Cramer (21st/23:23.0), Kearney junior Lacie Lindner (22nd/23:24.2), Kearney redshirt freshman Matt Thurston (21st/26:39.8), Juniata freshman Justin Vrooman (23rd/26:41.7), Maryland junior Zach Gascho (26th/26:44.8) and Scottsbluff junior Shane Burkey (27th/26:45.3). The Central Regional meet is set for November 17 at Missouri Southern.
