Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney track and field team has qualified two men and two women for the 2018 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. The three-day meet starts Thursday, May 24, in Charlotte, N.C., and is hosted by Johnson C. Smith University. A top eight finish is good for All-American honors; finishers nine through 12 are tabbed second-team All-Americans by the USTFCCA (U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Assoc.).
Repeat qualifiers for this meet are senior Bailey Stapleman in the pole vault and junior Jacob Bartling in both the shot put and discus. Heading to outdoor nationals for the first time are throwers Mackenzie Crowder and true freshman Anna Squiers. Crowder qualified for the 2016 NCAA indoor meet in the weight throw. As always, some Lopers just missed out on qualifying. That group included McCook senior Marcus Gonzales (hammer), Ord junior Andrew Fields (steeplechase), Cairo junior Grant Myers (pole vault), Deweese sophomore Corbin Hansen (steeplechase) and Florida freshman Montrez Jackson (high jump). All five were ranked 22nd-24th nationally in their respective event.
