Wayne State College head women’s soccer coach Joe Cleary announced Tuesday the addition of three student-athletes who will join the Wildcat soccer program for the 2018-19 school year. Amanda Clements (Omaha), Claire Gay (El Paso, Texas) and Samantha Nocita (Omaha) join eight members who already signed with Wayne State College during the NCAA early signing period in February.

“These three additional players will provide our backline and overall team with a good amount of athleticism and depth. All three are versatile enough to impact the team in multiple positions and they will all have a chance to compete for minutes in our team. We are excited for all three to join our roster this next fall.”

Amanda Clements is a 5-7 midfielder/defender from Millard South High School where she was a four-year starter for the Patriots. Clements helped lead Millard South to two district championships (2017, 2018) and three-straight state tournament berths (2016-18). In 69 career games, Amanda recorded eight goals and 21 assists. Clements also applied her trade for Sporting Omaha Futbol Club.

“Amanda was a late addition to our squad and we are extremely excited that she will be joining the program,” said Cleary. “She is a proven competitor with both her high school and club team and has the ability to play several positions. Technically, she is a great striker of the ball which will benefit our attackers greatly both in open play and set piece situations.”

Transferring from Trinidad State Junior College (Colorado) is 5-8 defender Claire Gay. Before becoming a two-year letter-winner and earning Region XI Second Team All-Region honors, the El Paso, Texas native was a standout defender for Coronado High School. Gay received all-district honors three different times in her high school career, including First-Team accolades in 2013 and 2014.

“Claire is a strong player and a high character individual,” stated Cleary. “She will provide size, competition and depth to our backline. She is a versatile player who can play centrally or out wide. I look forward to her coming in and competing for minutes in our defense.”

Samantha Nocita joins the squad from Omaha Central High School where the 5-9 defender was a four-year starter while also playing club level for Sporting Omaha FC. Nocita competed on her high school cross-country team as well as involving herself in extracurricular activities outside of sport. Already a student at Wayne State, Samantha earned a place on the WSC Spring 2018 Dean’s List.

“Samantha was a current student at Wayne State College when she asked to try out for the program,” said Cleary. “She did well during her tryout and is excited to be a part of our program on a full-time basis. Samantha was a strong, hard-working defender in high school and once she gets back into the swing of things she will definitely help add depth to the backline.”

Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 16-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Wildcats finished the 2017 season with a 4-8-6 overall record and tied for 12th in the NSIC with 14 points by going 3-7-5 in league play and graduated two seniors.
