WAYNE – Paige Ballinger of Wayne State College was named Monday afternoon the Northern Sun Conference South Division Women’s Basketball Player of the Week by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota following her play over the weekend in two WSC home wins over St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth. It’s the first time this season that Ballinger has received NSIC Player of the Week honors.

Ballinger, a 6-1 senior center from Pender (Pender HS), averaged 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 58.8 percent from the field (10-17) and 90.5 percent at the free throw line (19-21). She accounted for 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field in Friday’s 84-56 home win over St. Cloud State and followed that with 20 points and nine rebounds that included 14 of 15 shooting from the free throw line in Saturday’s 76-70 victory over Minnesota Duluth.

With her 20 points in Saturday’s win, Ballinger moved into 10th place on the all-time scoring list at WSC with 1,352 and by making 14 of 15 free throws vaulted into third place on the all-time career free throws made list at WSC with 405.

For the season, Ballinger leads Wayne State in scoring at 12.3 points per game while grabbing 5.7 rebounds a contest. She ranks third in the NSIC in blocked shots per game (2.1) and is 11th in the league in field goal percentage (.487) and 12th in free throw percentage (.829).

Wayne State, 18-6 on the season and second place in the NSIC South with a 12-4 league record, plays at Bemidji State Friday night at 6 p.m. and Minnesota Crookston Saturday in a 4 p.m. contest.
