Zephyrs fall at home in doubleheader to Spearfish

The rough start to the season for the Westco Zephyrs continued on Monday night at Cleveland Field with the Z’s dropping a pair of games to Spearfish, SD Post 164.

The finals were 8-0 and 7-0.

Westco’s record now 0-7.

In game one it was Donovan Balsley tossing a complete game shutout, going six innings allowing just three hits while striking out four. Balsley retired the final 13 hitters in the game.

Alexis Gurrola took the loss for the Zephyrs. Gurrola pitched into the fifth inning allowing 7 runs, all earned with a walk and three strikeouts.

More of the same on the mound in game two for Spearfish with Drew Gusso tossing a seven inning complete game shutout.

Gusso needed just 80 pitches, 55 of which he threw for strikes, to notch the victory.  He allowed just four hits while striking out three.

Westco commited six errors in the game and all seven runs allowed were unearned.

Trevor Garcia got the start and went five innings allowing three unearned runs with four strikeouts and three walks. Garcia took the loss.
