Z’s and PVC drop legion games on Tuesday night

We had a busy night of legion baseball coverage on Tuesday with the WESTCO Zephyrs home for Cheyenne Post 6 and also the season opener at home for Gering Platte Valley Companies against Alliance.

At Oregon Trail Park the Alliance Spartans got a combined no-hitter in their 8-0 win over Gering.

Peyton Pinedo worked the first four innings allowing no hits and then Trevor Dubray slammed the door shut in the 5th inning as the Spartans won in 5 inning affair.

Pinedo’s only real trouble spot was in the 1st inning but with one out and the bases loaded he induced a 1-2-3 double play to escape the jam.

Gering was not on their game defensively, committing seven errors on the night.

We had last night’s game for you on KNEB.tv and closed with radio coverage on KNEB AM 960, 100.3 FM, and kneb.com.

In the early the B&C Steel Juniors lost to Alliance by the final of 1-0.

Both Gering teams are off until next Tuesday night when they host WESTCO at Oregon Trail Park.

Zephyrs vs. Cheyenne Post 6

At Cleveland Field the WESTCO Zephyrs welcomed in one their tougher opponents on the schedule, Cheyenne Post 6.

Post 6 hung three big crooked numbers in their 14-1 win.

After Z’s starting pitcher Trent Richter hung a zero on the board in the top of the first it was Post 6 rattling the bats for five runs on six hits in the second inning.

In the 4th inning the Sixers crushed a couple long balls. Matthew Semler homered off Richter and then later in the inning it was Finley Hastings drilling a two run shot off of Harold Baez. All told in the 4th another five spot for Cheyenne.

WESTCO got their only run of the night in the bottom of the 3rd inning bases loaded walk issued to Trent Richter that scored Nate Blackos.

Just five hits on the night for the Z’s, they got two off the bat of Blackos.

Coverage last night was on KNEB AM 960, 100.3 FM, and kneb.com.

WESTCO will host Chadron in a juniors/seniors doubleheader tonight at Cleveland Field. The Express game will start at 5 p.m. and then we’ll have coverage for the Zephyrs game at 7:15 (or 15 minutes prior to first pitch).
