Almeida wins award

Nebraska earned its first Big Ten Conference Men's Player of the Week Award Monday. Senior center Andre Almeida captured the honor.

The native of Brazil led Nebraska to an important win over Wake Forest on the road in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

He collected his first career double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, tying his career high in scoring. Be also went 9-for-10 from the floor and blocked three shots.

Almeida becomes the first Big Ten player since 2009 to record 20 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 90 percent from the field.

The last Nebraska Player of the Week was Brandon Richardson (Jan. 30, 2012).
