Former Gering runner in Olympic trial finals
A former Gering High School runner is one race away from the 2012 Olympics in London. Sara (Ensrud) Vaughn finished fourth in the Firday semifinals of the 1,500- meter run at the United State Track and Field Olympic Trials at Eugene, Oregon.
Vaughn turned in a time of 4:10.57, six seconds faster than her quarterfinal race.
Vaughn will run in the finals on Sunday. The top three will qualify for a trip to London.
Vaughn's husband, Brent, also ran in Eugene competing in the 5,000 meters. He finished 13th. The Vaughn's now live and train in Portland. They have two young daughters.
Vaughn was a state record holder while running for the Bulldogs, graduating in 2004. She then attended the University of Virgina, then transferred to Colorado. She is now the athletic director at Life Christian School in Portland.
