Hastings women beat Dakota Wesleyan
Hastings - It was senior night for the Hastings College women's basketball team and they went out on top and did it in style. Hastings had an answer for anything Dakota Wesleyan threw at them enroute to a 99-86 victory Saturday at Lynn Farrell Arena.
Already caught in the middle of a shoot-out, Hastings found some defense late in the first half with the game tied 36-36. Hastings would hold the Tigers to one shot on three consecutive possessions while turning DWU over once going on a 9-0 run to end the half.
The run was finished off by a flurry of offensive rebounds by the Broncos before Laurel Zwiener would clean up the mess for the 45-36 halftime lead.
The Broncos would expand the lead to 17 points three times in the second half while DWU would only get to within eight one time with 1:43 remaining.
Hastings was led by Cami Bruckman as she finished with a game high 27 points on 8-for-14 shooting while collecting four steals and eight rebounds. Zwiener along with Jamie Van Kirk also eclipsed the 20 point mark on the day
Van Kirk finished with 24 points on 10-for-14 shooting while Zwiener finished with 20 points on 8-for-19 shooting.
The Tigers were led by Katie Johnson as she finished with 26 points on 7-for-8 shooting including 12-for-14 from the charity stripe.
With the win, Hastings improves to 24-3 (15-3) on the season and will be back in action Wednesday Feb. 19 hitting the road to take on Midland with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. in Fremont, NE.
