COZAD- It was an old Dawson County rivalry on Friday night as the Cozad Haymakers hosted the Gothenburg Swedes. Gothenburg jumped out to an early lead and beat the Haymakers 42-6.
Gothenburg coach Craig Haake wanted to get off to a fast start and his team did just that. The Swedes won the toss; took the ball and drove it down the field on a nine play, 67 yard drive culminating in a 15 yard touchdown run by Vincent Nichols.
On the ensuing drive Cozad would be forced to put to Gothenburg seniors Dawson Graham who returned the ball 65 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Gothenburg led the game 21-0 at half and cruised to the victory.
Sophomore Adam Cole scored late for the Haymakers for their lone points.
Graham had a good night. He was 14-19 for 130 yards through the air along with his punt return for a touchdown.
Gothenburg advances to 5-2 ahead of their big game against Kearney Catholic next week. Cozad falls to 2-5
