A four-week chip seal project is underway in Scottsbluff, starting in the southeastern corner of the city Wednesday and working its way throughout the community.
Weather permitting, the project will include most asphalt residential streets, with TopKote crews working 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Downtown and hand radius’ will be completed on weekends.
Residents are advised that when they see their area as the next to be chip sealed all vehicles will need to be in the driveways or off the streets as the process requires curb to curb application at a rate of about 30 minutes per block. Cell phone messages are being used to alert when an area is planned for work, along with hand flyers explaining the process delivered door to door.
Streets that are concrete will be crack sealed with significantly damaged areas redone, as chip seal is meant only for asphalt surfaces.
Once the chips on sealed areas have been rolled by construction crews, residents can park on them as usual.
