Moore Pleads Not Guilty, Murder Trial Likely to be Delayed

The 54-year-old Scottsbluff man charged with second degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony for the stabbing death of another man in November has entered not guilty pleas to the charges, but trial in the case may not take place any time soon.

During a hearing Dec. 15, Gregory Moore was found not competent to stand trial in a separate felony case stemming from a March 2020 incident in which he’s accused of threatening a landlord with a pocket knife, then striking the landlord in the head with his fists when the man fell over.

District Court Judge Andrea Miller ordered Moore committed to the Nebraska Health and Human Services Lincoln Regional Center to receive treatment, with status reports every sixty days. The treatment and assessment regimen was ordered to continue until Moore was found to be fit to stand trial, or a permanent determination was made.

In that case, Moore is charged with felony terroristic threats and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, plus misdemeanor third degree assault.

For the murder case, Moore entered his pleas and waived his District Court arraignment in a Dec. 21st written filing, and asked the court to hold a status hearing within sixty days.
