NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a non-credit class to prepare
14-17-year-olds with the basic skills to operate a motor vehicle.
The Provisional Operator’s Permit (P.O.P.) Driver’s Education course (TRAN 5110/19F &
CRN #60003/60020) will be held from October 20-November 2 at Norfolk Senior High School, 801 Riverside Boulevard, Room 401. Class will meet Sunday, October 20, from 12:30-6 p.m.; Wednesday, October 23, from 6-8:30 p.m.; Saturday, October 26, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; Wednesday, October 30, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; and Saturday, November 2, from 8 a.m.- 1 p.m. Lorie Summers is the instructor.
The class includes 20 hours of classroom lecture and at least six hours of driving to be arranged between the instructor and the student. Parents are asked to attend the first class along with the student at 8 a.m.
Students are asked to bring their learner’s or school driving permit to the first class. A book will be provided. Students must sign up for both the lecture class and the driving sessions.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a three credit Medication Aide class beginning this month.
The course (HLTH 1120/19F & CRN #16038) will be held Mondays and Thursdays, October 21-December 2, from 5-9 p.m., in the Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Education Center, 200 W. Washington St., Room 104. Mary Dickson is the instructor.
This course is designed to prepare students to assume the role and responsibilities of a Medication Aide working in a nursing facility. The course includes information regarding medication administration, pharmacology rules and regulations, classification of drugs, orders, storage abbreviations and an overview of commonly used drugs and documentation.
Cost of each class is $366. Textbooks are available for purchase for $56.18.

WEST POINT – Imagine picking up a brush, and in a few simple strokes you’ve captured beautiful flowers on paper. Northeast Community College in West Point will offer another watercolor painting class later this month to make that happen.
Floral Watercolor Painting (ARTS 5163/19F & CRN #60129) will be held Thursday, October 24, from 6-9 p.m., in the Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Education Center, 200 W. Washington St., Room 102. Jeanette Johnson is the instructor.
This class is beginner-friendly and no previous experience is required. Participants will practice a few simple brush strokes and then move on to painting simple, colorful, and beautiful floral compositions.
The cost of the course covers paint and paper and other minor materials; brushes are provided for use by the College. When class is over, students will take home their beautiful artwork.

NORFOLK – A class for anyone with a knowledge in astronomy or who may have a desire to want to learn more about the subject will be offered by Northeast Community College in Norfolk soon.
The class, Advanced Adventures in Astronomy (HORC 5110/19F & CRN #60217 meets Thursday, October 24, from 6-9 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.
In this class, Instructor Gary Fugman will give participants the opportunity to experience optical and radio telescopes and the Solar System, complete with comets and associated meteor showers on Earth. Other areas of discussion will focus on deep sky objects, how stars evolve with other stars producing black holes, as well as the structure of the Milky Way Galaxy, other galaxies and quasars. Cosmology’s latest findings will be also discussed.
Weather permitting, students will view the cosmos near the close of class.
Cost of the class is $30.
