Northeast to offer August classes at West Point and Norfolk Campuses

NORFOLK – The Applied Technology Division at Northeast Community College will offer a two-credit course for those who would like to take the State Electrical Exam for licensing.

Electrical Licensing Prep (ELTR 2025/19F & CRN #15372) will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays, August 5-September 4, from 7-10 p.m., in the Applied Technology building, Room 115-A/B, on the Northeast campus in Norfolk.

Instructor Dan Frohberg will prep students in Basic Electricity Calculations, Code Sections, and State of Nebraska Electrical Law.

Cost of the course is $244.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer two Nurse Aide classes in West Point beginning later this month.

The class (NURA 1110/19F & CRN #16036) will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, August 19-November 4, from 8:30-10 a.m. Jill Junck is the instructor. An additional class, (NURA 1110/19F & CRN #16037) will be held Mondays and Thursdays, August 19-October 17, from 5-9 p.m. This class will also meet on Saturday, September 28, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Mary Dickson is the instructor.

Classes will meet in the Northeast Extended Campus, Room 207, 202 Anna Stalp Ave. in West Point.

Students will learn the basic skills needed to provide safe, effective, and caring services to the elderly or chronically ill patient of any age, in a long-term care facility. Upon completion of this course, the student is eligible to take the state written and practical skills exam. After successfully passing this examination and completing the application procedure, the student’s name will be place on the basic nurse aide registry at the Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure Credential Division.

Cost of each class is $366, plus $80.25 for textbooks. Textbooks are available for purchase at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus office in West Point.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will hold another Nurse Aide course that will begin later this month.

The course (NURA 1110/19F & CRN #15973-Hybrid) meets Mondays, from August 19-December 9, from 4:30-10 p.m. every other Monday. The class will meet from 5-7 p.m. on the first night. Lacey Moeller is the instructor.

The same course (NURA1110/19F & CRN #16027) will also be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from August 20-October 20, from 4:30-9:30 p.m. with Genevra Blackburn the instructor. Additionally, the course (NURA1110/19F & CRN #15923) will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 20-December 19, from 9:35 a.m.-12:35 p.m., with Jill Junck the instructor.

All classes will meet in the Arlo Wirth Building, Rooms 103 and 115, on the Northeast campus in Norfolk.

This course is designed to meet the Nebraska Health and Human Services System training requirements for nurse aide certification and employment in long-term care facilities. The course combines classroom lecture and laboratory application for the development of basic skills needed to provide safe, effective, and caring services to the elderly or chronically ill patient of any age in a long-term care facility.

Upon completion of this course, the student is eligible to take the state written and practical skills exam. After successfully passing this examination and completing the application procedure, the student’s name will be placed on the basic nurse aide registry at the Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure, Credentialing Division.

Cost of the course is $366. An additional $45 fee will be required is a student chooses to register to take the Certified Nursing Assistant exam at the end of the course. A book is also available in the Northeast College Store at (402) 844-7140.

Financial assistance is available through the Community College GAP Assistance Program for students meeting income guidelines.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a basic life support class and a renewal opportunity for healthcare providers in June.

BLS for Health Care Provide Course (HLTH 5300/19F & CRN #60055) will be held Saturday, August 24, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 105.

This course is designed to provide a cross section of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of the course, with Ethan Larson the instructor, is $60.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Renewal (HLTH 5305/19F & CRN #60054) will be held Wednesday,
August 14, from 6-10 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101.

This course is designed to refresh the knowledge of a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Participants are asked to bring their certification card with them the night of the class.

Cost of the class, with Bradley Korth the instructor, is $40.

Books for both courses are available at the Northeast College Store.

Pre-registration is required for both classes.
