Northeast to offer mid-November Classes at Norfolk Campus

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College has scheduled a Heartcode – Advanced Cardiac Life Support class this month.

The class (HLTH 5505/19F & CRN #60077) will be held Tuesday, November 12, from 1-4 p.m., and (HLTH 5505/19F & CRN #60082) Wednesday, November 20, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Both classes will be held in the Nebraska Room at Faith Regional Health Services, 2700 W. Norfolk Ave., in Norfolk.

This course encompasses knowledge and techniques which are utilized in the definitive management of a cardiac arrest or similar life-threatening emergency. It is designed for the first time or renewal certification and has two parts for completion.

Part 1 is web-based and accessible 24 hours a day, provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Part 2 is a skills session where hands on practice and competency testing are completed with a Certified American Heart Association (AHA) instructor. When Part 1 is completed, students should register for the Skills Sessions and bring their online completion certificate (Part 1 is to be completed within the last 60 days) to the Skills Session for which they have registered.

The Online key code for Part 1 is SKU #10147313 and is available at the Northeast Hawks Shop (college store) in the Library/Resource Center or call (402) 844-7140. NOTE: Students need to bring their AHA Part 1 Advanced Cardiac Life Support Online Course Completion Certificate to be admitted to the Skills Session. No textbook is required for this class.

Cost is $30.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a beginning Microsoft Excel class this month.

Microsoft Excel 2016 – Level I (INFO 5115/19F & CRN #60353) will be held Tuesday, November 12, and Thursday, November 14, from 6-9 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center. Stacy Anderson is the instructor.

In this course, participants will explore the essentials of Microsoft Excel 2016 to analyze, manage and share data of all kinds. They will learn to construct and modify worksheets, incorporate formulas and functions, navigate worksheets and workbooks with ease and use simple functions and formatting techniques to evaluate and organize data effectively.

Cost is $60.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a basic life support renewal class for healthcare providers in November.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Renewal (HLTH 5305/19F & CRN #60080) will be held Wednesday, November 13, from 6-10 p.m., in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101.

This course is designed to refresh the knowledge of a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Participants are asked to bring their certification card with them the night of the class.

Cost of the class, with Bradley Korth the instructor, is $40.

Books for both courses are available at the Hawks Shop in the Library/Resource Center on the Norfolk campus.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a renewal class for CPR instructors in November

CPR Instructor Renewal (HLTH 5400/19F & CRN #60079) will be held Wednesday, November 13, from
6-10 p.m., in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 124.

This American Heart Association course is a recertification for current CPR instructors. Any new materials and new procedures will be included in the four-hour course. Students much bring their current CPR instructor cards.

Cost of the class, with Brock Soderberg the instructor, is $40.

NORFOLK, NE – The Center for Enterprise at Northeast Community College will offer a course this month that will explore multiple technologies used to increase efficiency of in-season crop management.

Crop Scouting Technologies (AGRI 5145/19F & CRN #60418) meets Thursday, November 14, from
9 a.m.- 4p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

This course will look at best scouting practices to support site-specific management. Northeast Precision Agriculture Trainer Lonny Mitchell will explain the use of sensors to improve water and nitrogen management, pest management tools and a few scouting apps to help producers during the growing season. As a result, attendees will gain an understanding of the benefits of using real-time sensing and aerial imagery for scouting, identify new tools used to increase scouting efficiencies and discover new mobile applications for plant and insect identification.

Cost of the class is $60.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two Basic Life Support (BLS) courses for healthcare providers in November.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Course (HLTH 5300/19F & CRN #60395) will be held Saturday, November 16, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth Building, Room 105, on the Norfolk campus.

This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of this class, with Ethan Larson and Bradley Korth the instructors, is $60. The textbook for the course is available in the Hawks Shop in the Northeast Library/Resource Center, (402) 844-7140.
