DeWitt-The Tekamah-Herman Juniors American Legion Baseball Team stayed alive at the Class C State Tournament at Cody Park in DeWitt Tuesday evening, knocking off Pierce 8-0 in 5 innings.

Jed Hoover got the scoring started in the 1st inning for Tekamah-Herman as he stole 2nd and then caught Pierce’s defense napping and stole 3rd and scored after a wild throw sailed over 3rd Baseman Tristan Miller’s head.

Clay Beaumont came up later in the inning and got on via a double and then was in a pickle in between 2nd and 3rd as he appeared to be dead for red after a pick off attempt to 2nd base had him caught. However, Beaumont took off for 3rd base and a second overthrow of 3rd in the inning allowed him to score as he beat the throw home as well.

Hoover threw a two-hit shutout for Tekamah-Herman, working out of jams in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th innings. Hoover got out of a jam with runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out in the 1st inning as a runner interference call on Michael Kruntorad accounted for the 3rd out of the inning on a double play ball to shortstop Cole Bottger.

Hoover picked off David Dale and Seth Valverde of Pierce at 3rd base to end the 2nd and 4th innings, respectively.

Brady Bromm and Bottger scored on singles from Dylan Chatt and Hoover, respectively, in the bottom of the 5th inning, to make it 4-0 in favor of Tekamah-Herman.

Beaumont then hit his second double of the game, and Tekamah-Herman went up 6-0.

Beaumont would then score on an RBI single by Gavin Enstrom as he went to 3rd on a wild throw into the infield on the prior scoring play.

Enstrom stole 2nd and then took 3rd on a groundout by Jordan Derra and scored the game ending run on a wild pitch.

Hoover was 3-3 with two runs scored for Tekamah-Herman while Beaumont went 2-3 with the two doubles and two runs scored.

Tekamah-Herman advances to face Syracuse Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m. in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
