BDS wins the Class D2 State Championship

BDS wins the Class D2 State Championship

SHICKLEY – For the first time since 1995, the NSAA state high school football championship games were held at home fields in all classes. In Class D2, the BDS Eagles took on Sandhills/Thedford on its’ home field in Shickley.

The game was close for most of the first half, and tied at the end of the third quarter. The game changed for BDS in the fourth quarter, where they scored two touchdowns to launch ahead. They finished with a 36-28 win, and captured the school’s third state championship.

Senior back Dalton Kleinschmidt had two touchdowns, including a 65-yard run in the second quarter and a two-yard run in the fourth quarter which gave BDS the lead. He finished with 146 yards rushing on 17 carries.

The final Eagle touchdown saw a 46-yard play-action pass from quarterback Dominic Philippi to senior Eric Schroeder with just over four-minutes left. The Knights scored later in the game, but it would not be enough and BDS finished off the win. Philippi finished 10-for-14 with 146 yards and one touchdown pass. He also had a touchdown run.

For Sandhills/Thedford, they were led on the ground by junior Dane Pokorney who had 28 carries for 134 yards. Senior quarterback Grant Alstrom had two touchdown runs.

BDS ends the season at 12-0.
