OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton Volleyball standouts Brittany Witt and Keeley Davis have been honored by the BIG EAST Conference in recognition of their play last weekend.
Witt earned her second BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week award this fall, and eighth of her career, while Davis was recognized as BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the ninth time in 12 weeks this season.
Witt averaged 6.17 digs per set and handled all 25 serve receive attempts flawlessly as Creighton picked up 3-0 wins at both Xavier and Butler. She opened her week with 18 digs and a pair of aces in a 3-0 win at Xavier. The senior from Omaha then had 19 digs and three assists in a sweep of Butler. Witt’s 113 career aces is tied for third-most in Creighton history, and her 1,981 career digs are just 73 shy of Kate Elman’s school record.
Davis averaged 6.08 points, 5.00 kills, 1.67 digs, 0.83 blocks and 0.50 aces per set on .243 hitting last week. Davis had 14 kills, five digs, four blocks an an ace on .258 hitting in the victory at Xavier. She followed that up with 16 kills, five digs, one block and a pair of aces on .231 hitting in the sweep at Butler. She continues to lead all BIG EAST freshmen in points per set and kills per set.
In addition, Creighton sophomore Jaela Zimmerman was named to the BIG EAST’s Weekly Honor Roll after posting consecutive double-doubles last week. Marquette star Allie Barber brought home BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week laurels for the sixth time this fall.
Ranked 12th nationally, Creighton (22-4, 15-1 BIG EAST) hosts No. 9 Marquette (25-3, 15-1 BIG EAST) on Friday at 6 p.m., with the winner clinching at least a share of the 2019 BIG EAST regular-season title.
