GPAC Mens Golf Championships: Day 1 Complete

(Sioux City, Iowa) – (Day 1 Results – PDF) The first 18 holes of the 2020-21 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Mens Golf Championships presented by Cypress Risk Management is complete from Indian Creek in Elkhorn, Nebraska. The fall portion will conclude on Tuesday with 18 holes. The final 36 holes will be played in the spring at the Dakota Dunes Country Club.

Morningside, the defending GPAC champion, has an eight stroke lead over Doane in the team race after shooting a 295 (+7) over 18 holes. Northwestern is in third with a 307 while Midland and Dordt round out the top five with a total of 309 and 315 respectively.

Individually, Connor Schubring of Doane has the clubhouse lead carding a two-under (70) despite windy conditions on the opening day. Jonny Douglas of Morningside is second with an even round of 72. A pair of golfers from Morningside, Corey Matthey and Sam Storey are tied with Peyton Koch of Midland for third with a 1-over 73.

Play on Tuesday (September 29) will get under way at 10:00 am from Indian Creek in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Players will be going off every ten minutes on the Black Bird and Gray Hawk courses at Indian Creek. Tuesday play will begin at 10:00 am with the same format.

For any spectators planning on attending, per GPAC return to play protocols masks will be required.

The final 36 holes will be played this spring at the Dakota Dunes Country Club in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.  The dates will be determined later.

The GPAC Mens Golf Champion receives an automatic berth in the NAIA Mens National Golf Championship in Silvis, Illinois, at the TPC Deer Run.  The NAIA National Mens Golf Championships are set for May 18-21, 2021.  The GPAC medalist (if not on the qualifying team) also qualifies for the NAIA Championships.
