Midland Volleyball ranked 8th to begin year

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University’s women’s volleyball will begin their 2019 campaign as the No. 8-ranked team in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Warriors received 381 points in the NAIA Preseason Coaches’ Poll which was released on Wednesday.

“I think the poll really speaks to the respect that past Midland teams have earned over the years,” commented head coach Paul Giesselmann. “We graduated a lot of talent off last year’s team. This team will have to go out earn its ranking and because of our schedule will have numerous opportunities this season to be tested by some of the very best teams in the country. Starting this Friday with No. 3-ranked Grand View.”

Midland opens the year with three home matches as part of the Nebraska Strong Warrior Invitational. They’ll face the third-ranked Vikings on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and then on Saturday they’ll take on Saint Ambrose at 11:00 a.m. and Briar Cliff at 5:30 p.m.

On Friday night, Midland University will recognize and celebrate the members of Fremont and the surrounding area that came together this past spring as flooding hit the area as well as most of the Midwest. A special community tailgate will take place at 6:00 p.m. outside the Wikert Event Center
