Midland Women win at College of Saint Mary

OMAHA, Neb. – Midland University’s women’s basketball team picked up their first Great Plains Athletic Conference win in 71-54 fashion over College of Saint Mary on Saturday night. The win moves Midland to 4-4 on the year and 1-2 in GPAC play.

The Warriors shot 30.6 percent (15-of-49) from the field compared to 33.9 percent (21-of-62) for the Flames. CSM was 0-of-17 from three while Midland was 5-of-23, and Midland outrebounded CSM 47-38. Freshman Lexi Craft led the Warriors with 13 points while sophomore Casey Thompson chipped in 11 points. Senior Amanda Hansen contributed 10 points on the night. Sophomore Lexis Haase led all players with nine rebounds and sophomore Payten Wingert followed with seven rebounds go to along with seven points.

The Warriors held a 16-8 after the first quarter and added to the lead in the second quarter to take a 33-22 advantage into halftime. The Warriors continued to outscore the Flames and led by as much as 21 points through the third quarter. CSM managed to outscore Midland 19-15 through the final ten minutes of play, but Midland’s lead proved to be too much as the Warriors ran away with a 71-54 victory on the road.

The tough stretch of road contests continues for the Warriors as the team travels to face No. 16 Hastings College on November 267. The game serves as the fourth top-25 matchup for the Warriors as Midland looks for its first win over Hastings since 2010. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Hastings, Nebraska.
