Northeast Baseball swept at Oklahoma-Tonkawa on Sunday

TONKAWA, Okla. – The No. 11 Northeast Community College baseball team had a tough time finding timely hits on Sunday, falling to No. 20 Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa, 5-3 and 7-4 in Tonkawa, Okla.

The Hawks (3-5) managed to score two runs in the top of the fifth inning, after the Mavericks plated five runs in the first three innings. The bats went quiet for the Hawks the rest of the game as they were unable to find any momentum.

Cooper Whitt (Knoxville, Tenn.) went 2-for-4 with a run and a double. Chris Mazzini (Parker, Colo.) was tagged with the loss after throwing two innings, allowing four earned runs off two hits, while walking four batters and striking out one.

Two three-run innings were the difference in the final game of the doubleheader. The Hawks managed to plate a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but the damage was already done by the Mavericks earlier in the game.

Derek Botaletto (Omaha, Neb.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Colin Lynam (Springfield, Neb.) was 2-for-3 with a run. Tanner Olmstead (Sioux Falls, S.D.) took the loss on the hill after tossing two and two-thirds innings, allowing four earned runs off four hits, while striking out four and walking three.

The Hawks travel south to take on Neosho County Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday for a doubleheader and again on Sunday at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. in Chanute, Kan.
