DEWITT – The Tekamah-Herman Juniors American Legion Baseball Team saw their State Tournament run come to an end Wednesday night as they fell 9-4 to Syracuse at Cody Park in rural DeWitt in action heard on 107.9 the Bull.
Tekamah-Herman plated a run in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Jed Hoover crushed a triple to the outfield fence and later scored.
Syracuse scored for the first time in the top of the third, taking a 3-1 lead.
Tekamah-Herman then made it 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning. Clay Beaumont recorded his second double of the game and scored on an RBI fielder’s choice from Gunnar Ray.
Syracuse added another run in the top of the fourth, making it 4-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, T-H’s Hoover reached on a dropped third strike, then scored on an RBI single from Beaumont, who then scored on an RBI double from Ray, tying the game at 4-4.
But, Syracuse added two runs in the sixth and another three in the seventh, and would go on to win 9-4, eliminating Tekamah-Herman from the tournament.
As a team, Tekamah-Herman had 5 hits in the game. Beaumont went 3-4 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI. Hoover had a triple and Ray had a double and two RBIs.
Tekamah-Herman finishes 2-2 at the State Tournament.
