UNO Volleyball wins regular season finale over South Dakota

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Omaha volleyball program picked up a four-set win over South Dakota (25-20, 16-25, 25-23, 25-18) in the regular season finale Sunday afternoon.

•    Omaha closes out the regular season at 17-13 overall and 10-6 in league play.
•    The Mavericks complete the season sweep over the Jackrabbits.
•    Sadie Limback’s team-high 15 kills gives her 16-straight matches of 10-plus kills.
•    Sami Clarkson notched her eighth-career double-double with 48 assists and 12 digs.
•    Isabella Sade (13), Anna Blaschko (11) and Alexa Blase (10) followed with double-digit kill performances.

A 10-4 spark helped Omaha build an early lead over the Jackrabbits. SDSU eventually came back and made it a one-point game on two separate occasions, but the Mavericks bounced back and never trailed again after going up 16-14. A 6-2 run capped off by a pair of kills from Sade and Limback sealed the 25-20 opening-set win.

SDSU opened the second set on a 7-3 run and Omaha never recovered. The Mavericks trailed by eight (20-12) through the set after an SDSU ace. Despite a late, 4-1 spurt, Omaha could not weather the storm and the Jackrabbits ended the set on a 4-0 scoring run for the 25-16 win.

A close third set fell in favor of Omaha and gave the team a crucial 2-1 match lead. The Mavericks started off hot and led 7-3 early after a Clarkson ace. Down 13-12, Omaha scored six straight and led 18-13, its largest lead of the set. SDSU did not waiver and came back and cut the score to one (20-19). Two-straight Limback kills gave Omaha the momentum it needed. Despite two late points from SDSU, Omaha secured the set point on a Blaschko kill, 25-23.

Early in the set, both teams were tied at 10-10. From there, it was a different story. Omaha controlled the later portion of the set and led by as many as five (17-12) on kills from Sade and Blaschko, along with a Blaschko ace. The Jackrabbits cut Omaha’s lead to three (18-15) and forced Matt Buttermore to use a timeout. Out of the break, his team outscored the Jackrabbits 7-3, which included four straight. Once again, Blaschko clinched the set and match point for Omaha on her 11th kill of the day.

Omaha drew the No. 4 seed in The Summit League Tournament and take on No. 5 seeded North Dakota State this Friday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m. (CST). Competition is set to take place in Denver, Colo. For more information, visit
