High Winds Lead to Power Outages in Scotts Bluff County, Entire Region

High Winds Lead to Power Outages in Scotts Bluff County, Entire Region

Extremely strong wind gusts Wednesday evening are believed to be the cause of power outages that have hit the region.

A power outage was reported by NPPD affecting at least 900 customers in and around the Scottsbluff and Terrytown area. shortly after 8 p.m.

According to the NPPD outage map, additional outages were reported in Minatare, northeast of Scottsbluff and west of the Chadron area. Outages have been reported in the Kimball area among several others.

Automated weather instruments at the Western Nebraska Regional Airport recorded a wind gust of 86 mph at 8:12 p.m.

The entire Panhandle and eastern Wyoming felt the impact of the gust front, with the strongest gust of 105 mph reported at 8:10 p.m. at an automated weather station 11 miles west-southwest of F.E. Warren Air Force Base.
